Marine protected areas
In April 2008, CPAWS published an important report about Canada’s delay ton create a Marine Protected Areas network. With the establishment of the Saguenay—St. Lawrence Marine Park in 1997, Quebec became a pioneer in marine parks creation in the country. Although created to protect, marine parks became very important as well to promote the richness of the protected territory to tourists. Visitors can than learn more about marine areas’ protection.
With a 12 000 km long coastline off of witch an incredible faunal and floral diversity prospers, Quebecers have to manage this collective wealth to guarantee its durability. Unfortunately, there have been a stop in National Marine Conservation Areas establishment in Quebec and CPAWS is trying to make the projects come true, in particular in Magdalen Islands.
